Premises acquired, premises licence acquired and now the real work begins!
Two vital ingredients for our journey ahead: I am delighted to confirm that our International Wine Headquarters (!) have been secured in Chew Magna (9 South Parade) and, as of Friday 23rd February 2024, we are licensed for the sale of alcohol. Marvellous!
If you turn up at the shop right now, you will be disappointed. We have been busy gutting out, removing false walls, re-wiring, re-plastering and generally renovating this wonderful old building. Originally a Baptist Chapel, way back in the early 1800’s, the building subsequently became a saddlery for many years. One of our local historians confirmed to me that he has a picture of the building with a horse looking back out of one of the windows! Some years later the building was occupied by a Hairdressing business and latterly, two separate Estate Agencies.
We want to breath new life into this old commercial building and renew its usefulness to the village and the wider valley.
We are near to the end of the beginning but we have lots do. Once the initial hard graft has been completed, we can turn our attention to all things wine. Wine shelving, wine fridges, wine art and, of course, wine stock; filling the shelves with the best wines that we can find at different price points.
Our website is under construction. You can view our holding pages and even register for future information (offers & events). The web address is www.thewineroomschewmagna.com. You can also find us on Instagram.
We are working hard to make our new premises a wonderful space for you to visit and to buy and/or taste wonderful wines and spirits.
Fell free to pop in and check the progress.
As for an opening date, its difficult to be concrete, by I am confident that we will open the doors in April 2024.
Cheers,
Mike
