The Wine Rooms Chew Magna opened its doors in May 2024 and is an Independent Wine Merchant and Wine Events business. The launch followed the extensive renovation and conversion of 9 South Parade Chew Magna, a historic building in the heart of the village; originally a Baptist Chapel in the 1820’s, and then becoming a Saddlery.
MIKE GOUGH
The business is the brain child of Mike Gough who has been scratching this particular itch for around 20 years! Mike has spent his entire career (until recently) in Financial Services with a number of Directorships, latterly with Lampiers Financial Planning, a long established Bristol business.
In 2003 Mike studied and sat the WSET examinations in Wines & Spirits up to the Advanced Level. In 2023 Mike again sat and passed the Advanced Level Exams which, although now much more difficult than in 2003, he managed to pass with Merit.
Mike’s ethos is to find the very best wines at various price points and he has access and formal agreements with a number of the UK’s leading Wine Import companies. He is also passionate that his wines should each be an authentic representation of the region from which they are produced. The business is really about ‘all things wine’ and there will be regular tasting events for all to enjoy, delivered in a fun and entertaining way.
